Tree damages home in Radford

RADFORD — A large tree fell on a Radford home Sunday evening, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.
According to Radford Fire Chief Lee Simpkins, the tree looked healthy, but apparently had rotted on the interior to the point it finally weakened and fell.
Although the homeowner and a dog were in the house at the time, neither was injured by the 6 p.m. incident.
The house is in the 300 block of Seventh Street.
Preliminary damage estimates are $100,000. However, Simpkins indicated final estimates couldn’t be completed until all of the tree has been removed from the structure.
A tree removal company continued to work there today. The process is expected to take a few more days to complete.
The home currently is deemed uninhabitable.
