Town may need bond issue for capital improvements

Years of tight budgets has the Town of Pulaski contemplating the need for a bond issue in 2010 to catch up on capital improvements.
During a budget work session Tuesday at Pulaski Senior Center, Town Manager John Hawley pointed out the 2009-10 budget contains no funding for capital improvements such as replacement of aging equipment.
He said the town may need to do a $2- to $3-million bond issue sometime during the winter of 2010 to “address serious equipment needs.”
During the discussion, Pulaski Fire Department Chief Bill Webb pointed out the department needs to replace a pumper and aerial truck. The Ford pumper is a 1981 model and the aerial truck is a 1970 American LaFrance.
Hawley pointed out several departments have equipment that is in serious need of replacement.
A bond issue would require a public hearing, but not a referendum.
