Report: Pulaski Furniture to leave by fall

After almost 54 years in Pulaski, it appears Pulaski Furniture Corporation will make its final exit from the town by this fall.
A spokesman for parent company Home Meridian did not return an e-mail regarding the potential closing of the company’s remaining warehouses and customer service offices in Pulaski.
However, Pulaski Economic Development Director John White indicated he was notified Monday by the corporation’s former owner that Home Meridian intends to consolidate its remaining Pulaski services with its North Carolina headquarters by August.
In April 2007, Pulaski Furniture’s Plant One on Fifth Street in Pulaski shut down. It was the company’s last domestic manufacturing facility. At that time 260 workers were displaced.
The number of workers affected by the consolidation was not available.
The company’s outlet store on East Main Street closed last fall.
Pulaski Veneer and Furniture Corporation was incorporated Oct. 28, 1955 when a group of individuals decided to start a furniture manufacturing operation in a RCA cabinet shop that had closed in 1948.
