Search on for Radford murder suspect

RADFORD — Radford City police are continuing to search for the suspect in a shooting death that resulted in a lockdown of the Radford University campus Thursday night.
The shooting did not occur on campus and police say it is not believed at this point that students were involved. However, the campus was put on lockdown for about five hours after the suspect was seen fleeing west on Jefferson Street in the direction of the campus.
Police from throughout the New River Valley responded to assist Radford City with the manhunt.
According to Radford City Spokeswoman Rebecca Hawke, the shooting occurred in the 500 block of Calhoun Street, which is about two blocks east of the campus. She said at least two males apparently got into an altercation that resulted in one of the men being shot.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead after being taken to New River Valley Medical Center.
The suspect remains at large. He is described as a young black male, tall and slim, and possibly having a goatee. He was believed to be wearing dark pants and a camouflage jacket.
Police consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone who sees someone matching the suspect’s description is asked to call 911 to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
Anyone having information on the shooting should call Radford City Police at 731-3624.
