Raymond Edward Covey, Sr.

Raymond Edward Covey, Sr. age 94 of Dublin, died early Sunday morning April 19, 2009 in the New River Valley Medical Center. He was born on June 11, 1914 in Botetourt Co., Virginia, but grew up in Dublin, Virginia, and was the son of the late Elizabeth Sadler Covey and Jessie Raymond Covey. Raymond was for many years a dairy farmer in the Johnsville Community of Frederick Co., MD. before he became an electician for Hood College in Frederick, MD. In his later years, he and his wife returned to Claytor Lake for their retirement. He was a member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church, and was a very active life-member of the Dublin Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones award. He was a former member and served as president several times with the Libertytown/Unionville Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Osceola Covey, brothers, Herbert Sadler Covey, and Jesse R. Covey, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Sharon O. Covey. He is survived by two sons: Raymond E. Covey, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD, and Leeman Harper Covey and his wife, Dr. Patsy Covey, both of Point Clear, AL and Flat Rock, NC: brothers; Earl S. Covey and his wife Doris of Dublin, and Jerry J. Covey of Dublin: sisters; Elisabeth Collins of Scottsboro, AL, and Margaret Brewer of Roanoke. Also survived by a grandson; Heath Covey and his wife Michelle of Virginia Beach, and a great-grandson, Spenser Covey also of Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Schoenemen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, they may make memorial contributions to the Mt.
