Ruth Elizabeth King Atkins, 89, of Hiwassee, Virginia, died late Saturday night, Feb. 28, 2009 in the Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia on October 23, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Nathan King and Alice Goins King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Atkins and a daughter, Carol Kay Atkins Jones. She attended the Hiwassee Brethren Church. She was a retired employee of the Red Carpet Inn, Pulaski. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Joy Ann & Bob Scott, Salem; Bertha & A.J. Pentecost, Salem; Janie Gregory, Salem;
sons and daughters-in-law Raven & Rachel Atkins, Tennessee; Alvin Atkins, N.C., Gilbert & Linda Atkins, Hiwassee; son-in-law William Cecil Jones, Pulaski; sister Eva Kochubla, High Point, N.C., sister-in-law Ruby King, Mt. Airy, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Rev. Granville Bishop officiating. Visiting was Monday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
