Man hit by train in Dublin

A man was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Wednesday evening after being struck by a train near Wades in Dublin.
Norfolk Southern Spokesman Robin Chapman said a male was lying next to the tracks with his left leg on the rail when the 5:50 p.m. incident occurred. He indicated the train crew applied the emergency brake upon seeing the man and was able to bring the train to a stop about 2,000 feet beyond the impact site.
Chapman did not have an identity for the victim, who he referred to as a “male trespasser.”

According to radio traffic between the medical helicopter crew and CRMH, a portion of the victim’s foot was severed. However, they indicated the victim was conscious.
