Students land honors at Science Fair

The Southwest Virginia Governor’s School for Science, Mathematics and Technology held its 18th annual science consortium this past week in Edwards Hall on the New River Community College campus in Dublin.
Students at the Governor’s School have been developing these projects since last fall.
The following local students earned awards for their projects:
Chemistry
•1st place-Rebekah Webster, Pulaski County High School
•2nd place-Colleen Warren, PCHS
Consumer Science
•1st place-Paige Waddell, PCHS
•3rd place-Brittany Cook, PCHS
•Honorable Mention- Tara Dean and Kirsten Cazier, both from Fort Chiswell High School
Engineering
•1st place-Jake Harvey, Radford High School
•1st place-Katrina King, PCHS
•2nd place-Ashlyn Shrewsbury, PCHS

The Blue Ridge Highlands Regional Science Fair will be held Feb. 27-28 in Edwards Hall at NRCC. All first place winners from each category will advance to the regional level.
The Southwest Virginia Governor’s School is located at 100 Northwood Drive in Pulaski.
High school juniors and seniors from the counties of Pulaski, Montgomery, Wythe, Giles, Carroll and Smyth, along with the cities of Galax and Radford, attend the school.
