Billy Nelson Turman, 73, of Greensboro, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at his residence. Billy’s wish was to be cremated and he asked that his family and friends celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. A graveside service will be Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Dry Pond Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Carroll County, Va. Mr. Turman was born October 9, 1935, in Carroll County, Va. to the late Houston and Alma Marshall Turman. Mr. Turman was retired from the Greensboro Police Dept. with 27 years of service and was a veteran serving his country in the US Army as an Airborne Paratrooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Murphy, Donald and Joe Turman; and two sisters, Glavis Turman Brookman and Lucille Turman Hurd. Mr. Turman is survived by his wife, Janie Stilwell Turman of the home; children; Randall N. Turman of High Point, Jeffrey S. “Gee” Turman of Greensboro, Mark S. Turman and wife Robin of Summerfield, Teresa L. Turman of Greensboro; grandchildren, Christopher, Houston, Tara and Todd Turman; and special friends, Kathy Dawson, Kathy, Hannah, Katelyn, and John Sears. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at George Brothers Funeral Service.
