Samuel Barkley Sayers, age 75 of Pulaski, died Friday evening Feb. 13, 2009 in New River Valley Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1933 in Draper, and was the son of the late Frances Morefield Sayers and Epharin Sayers. He was a former employee of the Jones Brother’s Construction in Dublin, and later retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers.
He is survived by his wife Mildred Jones Sayers of Pulaski; son Freddie C. Sayers and his wife Suzann of Butte, Mont.; daughter Carolyn Sayers Orcutt and her husband Bobby of Pulaski; one grandchild Timothy Mark Delph and his wife Casey of Dublin; two special grandchildren Kelsey LeAnn Delph and Samantha Nicole Delph; three step-grandchildren Matthew Martin, Ivan Martin and Lynn Morris; and two special friends Jesse Kerns and Ernest Kerns. He is also survived by two siblings and a beloved dog Bambie.
The funeral service will be held Monday Feb. 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with Minister Ernie Depew and Minister Eddie Callahan officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
