John Daniel Cooke, 73, of Dayton, Texas went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008. He was born on Aug. 10, 1935 in McArthur, West Virginia to the Rev. Robert R. and Ella Carter Cooke. John had a passion for Scripture, cars, music-especially Chet Atkins and Les Paul, and photography. He was a very loving, intelligent and spiritual man who treasured his family, friends and Jesus most of all. He was retired from Air Liquide Bay Port Plant in LaPorte, Texas. John was preceded in death by his parents; his son Phillip Cooke; sister Elizabeth Cobb, and 2 grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Betty L. Cooke; daughters Regina Quesenberry (Steve) of Draper and Dr. Tamara Langebeck (Greg)of Fries; stepchildren James Thomas (Shannon) and Deborah Goodman of Baytown, Texas; sisters, Rev. Ruth C. Carneal, Agnes C. Miller (Bert), Mildred Ann Palmer (Danny), Ruby C. Regensburg, and Rachael Cooke; brothers Paul M. Cooke (Daisy) and David N. Cooke; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Margie Crawley and brother-in-law Wilbert Weckwerth; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one step-great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Ringo.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at Sterling-White Funeral Home in Highlands, Texas, with the Rev. Jo Stanley officiating. Interment followed at Sterling-White Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.SterlingWhite.com.
