Ritter faces murder charge

RADFORD — A man who is alleged to have pushed a Radford University student off a balcony last fall is now facing a second degree murder charge in the student’s death.
William Christopher Ritter, 20, of Radford originally was charged with the aggravated malicious wounding of 21-year-old Bobby Fletcher Thomason.
However, Ritter was indicted by a grand jury Friday on the amended, more serious, charge of second degree murder.
Thomason, originally from Woodbridge, died a week after the Sept. 13 incident at Hunter’s Ridge Apartments.
Ritter was served with the amended charge Wednesday and turned himself in to police that afternoon.
He is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail pending a bond hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. today.
Ritter apparently has waived his right to a preliminary hearing, as Radford Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Rehak said there will be no preliminary hearing in the case.
