Cougars beat GW again

WYTHEVILLE — The Pulaski County Cougars defeated the George Wythe Maroons Monday night, 87-78.
It was a run-and-gun affair as both teams got up and down the court. It was a game that saw 58 fouls called and 82 foul shots taken.
The Cougars played perhaps their best first half of the season.
Nubian Peak set a career high in points scored, as he tossed in 33 for the Cougars.
Pulaski County came out firing as they scored 27 points in the first quarter, with Peak getting 13 of those.
The Cougars scored 21 more in the second quarter to take a 48-33 halftime advantage.
Ondre Powell came off the bench and scored 7 points during the quarter and Brandon Hazzard came in and scored 8 big points for Pulaski County as well.
All total, once again Cougar head coach Mark Hanks’ bench scored 29 points as a lot of people made contributions for Pulaski County.
The second half started bad for the Cougars as the Maroons (3-3) ripped off a 9-0 run to pull to within 48-42.
The Maroons cut the lead to two as the third quarter ended with Pulaski County leading 59-57.
The Maroons couldn’t get any closer as Pulaski County seemed to get their second wind and their depth wore the Maroons down.
Pulaski County shot 17 foul shots in the fourth quarter and hit 14 of them to help them pull out a 9-point win.
The second half was just the opposite from what happened Friday night, Hanks stated.
“We played through it and we beat a real good team,” Hanks said afterwards. “A bunch of our guys played well and we need to build on this.”
The Cougars return to action Thursday night going on the road to Roanoke to take on Group AAA Patrick Henry.
Freshman actions begins at 4:30 p.m., JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity take the floor at 7:30 p.m.
