BREAKING NEWS

WYTHE COUNTY — A convicted sex offender, Albert Douglas Jaccard, is being sought by police in connection with a shooting incident in the Barren Springs area of Wythe County this morning.
According to Wythe County Sheriff Doug King, Jaccard is wanted for questioning and is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone having information on Jaccard’s whereabouts should call 911 for their jurisdiction.
The shooting took place at a residence off Dyer Road just over the Pulaski County line. Details of the shooting were unavailable at press time.
However, according to two-way radio traffic, two people were reported to have been shot when police received the call around 7:30 a.m.
Two people were transported to Pulaski Community Hospital, but no identities or condition reports were available.
Officers from Virginia State Police, Pulaski County and Wythe County sheriff’s offices, Radford City Police Department, and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries were still looking for the shooter around 9:30 a.m. today.
Apparently a Wythe County deputy was struck in his body armor by a bullet during the incident but is not believed to have been seriously injured.
Radio traffic indicated the house where the shooting victims were found also was fully-involved in fire about an hour after police arrived.

At least one person in the victim’s residence, who was hiding from the shooter inside a bathroom in the house, had to be coaxed from the residence by police when smoke started becoming too heavy for her to breathe.
