Lady Cougars host jamboree for Coach King

The Pulaski County High School Lady Cougar Basketball team will host a jamboree this coming Saturday, with eight local high school teams participating including: Hidden Valley, Radford, Bassett, Cave Spring, Auburn, Blacksburg, and Narrows.
All proceeds from the jamboree will go to the family of current Hidden Valley girls coach and former Pulaski County schools employee Brenda King, who is currently battling cancer.
“It’s going to be a great day of competitive basketball for a good cause,” first year head girls coach Jason Grubb said. “A lot of people have donated their time and services and we hope we’ll get a large turnout and raise some money for Brenda and awareness for the cause,” Grubb added.
The jamboree will consist of each team playing three mini-scrimmages, each two quarters long. This new, mini-scrimmage format was proposed so that each team, in the course of one day, would get a variety of other teams to play against.
“We’re really pleased at the talent we have coming this year,” Grubb said. “All the coaches are really excited to be a part of it,” he also noted.
There will be $5 admission price and since this jamboree is considered a fund raiser, no passes will be accepted. Concessions will be provided for the general public and there will be a hospitality room for all visiting coaches and players. Team donations are not required, but are greatly appreciated.
Pulaski County will tip off the first scrimmage at 9 a.m. against Auburn High School, and close out the competition against Narrows High School at 2:30 p.m., with a multitude of great basketball match-ups in between.
The full jamboree schedule and game rules are as follows:
•9 a.m. – Pulaski Co. vs. Narrows
•9:30 – Radford vs. Blacksburg
•10 – Auburn vs. Cave Spring
•10:30 – Pulaski Co. vs. Bassett
•11 – Radford vs. Hidden Valley
•11:30 – Narrows vs. Blacksburg
•12 p.m. – Auburn vs. Hidden Valley
•12:30 Radford vs. Cave Spring
•1 – Bassett vs. Blacksburg
•1:30 Narrows vs. Cave Spring
•2 – Hidden Valley vs. Bassett
•2:30 – Pulaski Co. vs. Narrows
