SCC approves rate hike

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia regulators have approved a 19.3 percent base rate increase for about 500,000 Appalachian Power Company customers in the state.
Appalachian Power originally had proposed a 24 percent increase.
The State Corporation Commission’s approval comes nearly three weeks after a tentative settlement was reached in Richmond between the SCC staff and the company.
The State Corporation Commission allowed Appalachian Power Company to begin charging an interim rate increase of about 22 percent on Oct. 28.
The difference between that increase and the final one will be refunded to Appalachian Power Company’s customers as a credits on their electric bills.
The increase will boost Appalachian Power’s annual operating revenue by $168 million.
