Cougars 2nd in AP poll

The Associated Press high school football rankings were released Tuesday, with Pulaski County coming in at the number two spot on the top ten Group AA rankings, second only to Brookville. The Radford Bobcats were ranked ninth in the single A poll.
The Cougars’ new ranking is largely accredited to the extension of their perfect season with a big win over Group AAA Division Six school Franklin County last Friday, 40-14. With this win the Cougars (3-0) are now one of the top teams in the state, as evidenced by the 67 points they received in the polling, even receiving one first place vote.
Standing in the way of the Cougars at the top of the poll is Brookville, who Pulaski County put up three unanswered scores against during the pre-season Harvey’s GM Touchdown Classic at Kenneth J. Dobson Stadium. That was, of course, pre-season. Since then, Brookville is unbeaten and their wins include a 14-0 shutout against Salem.
In single A action the Bobcats of Radford (3-0) also broke into the rankings, receiving 28 points in polling, putting them at the number nine spot just behind Washington & Lee. Their ranking comes after winning a squeaker against George Wythe 20-13 on Sept. 5 and shutting-out Grayson County High 42-0 on Sept. 12.
On Friday, the Pulaski County Cougars will travel to Lynchburg defend their number two ranking against number eight ranked Jefferson Forrest (3-0). Radford will host Rural Retreat in hopes of climbing up their poll.
