Man charged in connection with Radford fall

RADFORD — A 19-year-old Radford man has been charged in connection with a fall that critically injured a college student early Saturday.
Radford University student Bobby Fletcher Thomason, 21, remains in critical condition in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to a press release issued by Radford City Police Department late Monday morning.
Lt. R.A. Wilburn indicated in the release that William Christopher Ritter is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and is being held in New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
A Saturday press release from the department indicated the fall appeared to have been accidental, but the Monday press release stated that further investigation “determined the victim was pushed from the balcony after being assaulted.”
Initially, police thought Thomason had fallen down stairs at the 500 building of Hunters Ridge Apartments.
Thomason was found unconscious just after 3 a.m. when police and rescue personnel responded to a report that a male subject had fallen and was unconscious.
Thomason initially was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. However, he was later airlifted to the Roanoke facility.
Radford police report that Thomason is listed as a student at Radford University. The press release lists Ritter as a Radford resident, but it does not indicate that he is a student at the university.
