4 suspects in custody following alleged armed robbery

HILLSVILLE — Four suspects are in custody in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a residence in Carroll County Tuesday.
According to Carroll County Sheriff H. Warren Manning, Christopher Ryan Music, 20, James Russell Music, 20, and Corey Keith Smith, 20, were apprehended Tuesday. The fourth suspect, 23-year-old William Lloyd Music, was apprehended at Exit 8 off I-77 in the Fancy Gap area of Carroll County around 6:05 a.m. this morning.
All four suspects are from Mt. Airy, N.C.
Manning said Carroll County’s dispatch center received a call around 1:35 p.m. Tuesday that a citizen on Buffalo Road had been robbed at gunpoint. The suspects are alleged to have shot out the tires of the victim’s vehicle and then fled the scene in a green Ford Explorer bearing North Carolina tags.
About 15 minutes later, Carroll Deputy Cody Edwards saw a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle headed into the Town of Hillsville on Route 221. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed when the deputy tried to stop it, according to Manning.
He indicated his car and a Hillsville Police Department vehicle allegedly were rammed by the suspects’ Explorer during the pursuit. The Explorer proceeded southbound on I-77 for about two miles before crossing the median and turning back north, coming to a stop near mile marker 11.
Three of the suspects bailed out of the Explorer when it came to a stop. Christopher Music did not run and was apprehended.
A manhunt ensued for the remaining suspects. Carroll County officers and their K-9 unit were assisted in the manhunt by Hillsville Police Department, Virginia State Police and its K-9 unit, Fries Police Department, Galax Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, and Mount Airy Police Department.
Smith and James Music were taken into custody after 7 p.m. when a citizen reported seeing them.
A citizen report of a suspicious person also led police to the fourth suspect this morning.
Warrants have been obtained against all four suspects charging them with breaking-and- entering while armed with a deadly weapon.
Police confiscated the suspect vehicle, several weapons and items taken from the Buffalo Road home, Manning said.
