Memorial service scheduled Saturday for ‘Buggs’ Tickle

PULASKI — Charles B. Tickle Jr., 74, passed away on Thursday, August 21, at his home in Pulaski.
He was born in Pulaski April 22, 1934, and was the son of the late Charles B. Tickle Sr. and Stella Webb Tickle.
He attended Wingold College, Pembroke State and Radford University, where he received a master’s degree. He also attended the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech for his post-graduate work.
“Buggs” was a coach and educator with the Pulaski County School System before becoming an agent with State Farm Insurance in 1972. He remained in that position and served the area until the time of his death.
During his career, he qualified 16 times for the Legion of Honor and qualified for travel nine times. “Buggs” was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Visitors for New River Community College.
He was a longtime member of the Pulaski Country Club/Thorn Spring Golf Club. He served on the Board of Directors in many different roles and was president a number of times.
Besides being an avid golfer, “Buggs” was a strong supporter of all local sports, both high school and area teams.
During his coaching career, he coached football, basketball and golf, and his love and support of high school sports was life-long.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Tickle.
He is survived by: his wife, Jean Haislip Tickle; his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Gina Tickle of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Chase Ballard and Morgan Rebecca; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Helen Tickle of Pulaski.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 23, at Stevens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m., with a service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Ivey Adams Jr. will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
