M’s clinch tie for division title

PULASKI — Jacob Shaffer stroked a line-drive to center field with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday to knock in two runs and hand the Pulaski Mariners a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Greeneville.
The win, coupled with a Danville loss, gives Pulaski a big 6 1/2-game lead in the Appalachian League East Division and clinches at least a tie for the division title.
Pulaski begins its final home series of the season tonight at 7 p.m. when they host Johnson City for the first of three games, and the Mariners can clinch the division title with a win tonight.
A win for Pulaski will ensure them a spot in the best-of-three championship series Aug. 27-29 with the first game in Pulaski.
Wednesday night, Pulaski trailed 3-2 after the top of the ninth inning.
The Mariners rallied, however, when Guy Welsh singled to left. George Soto replaced Welsh as a pinch runner before Tommy Johnson lashed a single to left sending Soto to third, while Johnson made it to second on the throw.
Jonathan Arias replaced Johnson as a pinch runner before pinch hitter Kris Sanchez walked to load the bases with no outs.
Then came Shaffer’s heroics as his single knocked in both Soto and Arias to give Pulaski the win.
Pulaski (37-24) was led by Shaffer’s 3-for-3 night at the plate. Blake Nation (1-1) got the win for Pulaski.
