Man pleads guilty

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A man who was arrested in Jamaica 18 years after killing two women in Roanoke has pleaded guilty to the slayings.
Thomas Manuel Paige Jr. entered his plea Tuesday in Roanoke Circuit Court and was sentenced to two life terms plus 58 years.
Paige pleaded guilty to capital murder in the death of Debra Jean Salters and to first-degree murder in the death of Sylvia LaVern Baker. He also pleaded guilty to six other counts related to the non-lethal shootings of two other people.
The killings occurred in May 1989 after an apparent dispute over crack cocaine.
The U.S. Marshals Service and Jamaican authorities arrested Paige in May 2007 near Kingston, Jamaica.
