Emergency coordinator leaving job

PULASKI COUNTY — Pulaski County’s emergency management coordinator has been named a regional coordinator for Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
On July 24, Willie Richardson will leave the job he has held with the county for the past five years to take on the new position.
As VDEM’s Region 4 coordinator, Richardson will oversee 15 counties and four cities stretching from Radford City and Pulaski County to the western end of the state.
Regional coordinators provide hands-on support to jurisdictions within their regions and assistance across territorial boundaries in times of crisis.
Richardson will continue to live in Pulaski County. His office will be in the Competitiveness Center at Fairlawn.
Besides serving as Pulaski County’s emergency management coordinator, Richardson also has served as an adjunct instructor for VDEM.
He moved to the county from Galax when he took over as the local coordinator.

In his new position, Richardson replaces Joe Coyle, who now serves as VDEM’s local support services division director.
Region 4 includes the counties of Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise and Wythe, and the cities of Bristol, Galax, Norton and Radford.
