Sentencing for Palmer postponed

PULASKI — A sentencing hearing for a woman who admitted embezzling money from New River Valley Agency on Aging was continued again Wednesday.
Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor said the hearing had to be postponed because a background report on Deborah Hughes Palmer was not delivered in time.
He said the report has to be made available to both sides at least five days before sentencing.
Although the report was completed in time, it was not delivered to the attorneys within the time frame required.
An Aug. 20 sentencing date has been slated in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
Palmer pleaded guilty in April to 20 of 38 charges of obtaining money under false pretenses stemming from more than $144,000 in funds taken from the agency over a five-year period from 2001 to 2006.
She faces up to 20 years in prison.
