Pulaski holds off Bristol

PULASKI — Kalian Sams smacked a home run to right centerfield Wednesday night to lift the Pulaski Mariners past the Bristol White Sox 8-7 at Calfee Park.
  The White Sox had tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh before Sams connected on his game winning blast.
 Pulaski (8-7) fell behind early as Bristol (9-5) plated two runs in the first as Jordan Kendall doubled to bring home Justin Greene.  Jose Vargas followed with the first of his four RBIs in the game singling up the middle to score Kendall.
 The Mariners scored their first run in the second on a Guy Welsh RBI single. 
The White Sox answered in the fourth with a single run as Andrew Garcia lifted his second home run of the series to left field.
 Pulaski stole the lead in their half of the fourth as the host tallied a five spot on the scoreboard when they sent 10 men to the plate, while collecting seven hits.  Juan Fuentes started the scoring with an RBI double to left center.  Sams collected his first RBI, when the right fielder singled up the middle to plate Fuentes.  Welsh reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Jose Rivero to score when Sams’ hard slide at second broke up a double play.  Tommy Johnson smacked one of his three hits in the game, a double to centerfield that scored Welsh.
 After a pitching change, Anthony Phillips hooked a double down the right field line to score Johnson for the final run of the inning. 
Bristol cut the lead to one in the fifth on a two run double from Vargas before Pulaski pushed the lead back to two in their round of the fifth on a Johnson RBI single.
 Two runs by the White Sox in the seventh tied the score as Castillo tripled home a run before scoring on a Vargas single. 
Sams stepped to the plate with two outs in the seventh and blasted a 1-2 pitch over the right centerfield wall out of the stadium to give the Mariners the lead for good.
 Phillip Roy picked up the victory for Pulaski in relief, while Po-Yu Lin took the loss for Bristol.  Blake Nation pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save.
 The Mariners will wrap up the final game of the four-game series with Bristol tonight as Pepsi will sponsor the game which starts at 7 p.m.
