Two from Dublin fare well in Blue Ridge Junior tourney

DRAPER — The Draper Valley Golf Club hosted 79 members of the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on Monday, June 30th.
Brief scattered showers blew through the area in late morning but did not affect play. Conditions remained partly cloudy with wind the rest of the day.
Here are the results:
16-17 Age Group  Par 72 6846 yards
Galax residents Brock Cox and Scott Alouf each fired one-over par rounds of 73 to finish with the lowest scores of their age group. On the first playoff hole, after each hitting the fairway with their drives, both followed with successful conversions to the green. Cox, first to putt, stepped up and drained the 30 footer for birdie, making Alouf’s shorter attempt seem that much longer. Alouf’s ensuing putt just missed the cup, giving Cox his first tournament victory of the season. Alouf posted a two-under par 34 on the back nine, the lowest in the age group.  Tying for third three ways was Tyler Brookman from Dublin, Matthew Sanders from Dublin, and Jeffery McGraw from Princeton, WV.
14-15 Age Group  Par 72 6412 yards
Tanner Carbaugh of Eggelston also won for the 3rd consecutive week posting a one under par score of 71.  In second place with a 76 was Tyler Welch of Salem.  Tying for 3rd place with scores of 78 were Matthew Downey of Galax and Brandon White of Richlands.  In 5th with a score of 80 was Dustin Thompson of Galax.
