Town to release council applicants’ names Friday

PULASKI — The Town of Pulaski plans to release Friday morning a list of candidates who have applied for the soon-to-be vacant seat on the Town Council.
One seat will become vacant next Tuesday, July 1, when Councilman Jeff Worrell becomes mayor.
In order to fill the vacancy, the town has given potential candidates until this afternoon at 5 p.m. to submit a letter of interest and resume to Town Manager John Hawley’s office.
The town manager estimated about six submissions had been received as of late Wednesday.
The town manager said that he intends to keep them sealed until he hands them over to Worrell at council’s combination regularly scheduled and reorganizational meeting next week.
Hawley said he anticipates that Worrell will instruct the town staff to provide copies of all of the submissions to the Pulaski Town Council members so they can discuss the candidates at the council’s July 15 meeting.
He said he doesn’t know when a decision will be made, but it must be within 45 days of July 1, which is the beginning of the 2008-09 Fiscal Year.

Morgan Welker and Robert Bopp also will be assuming their positions on the Town Council next Tuesday.
Welker and Bopp were elected to the town council and Worrell was elected as the new Pulaski mayor in town elections in May.
