Claytor Lake Festival coming up Saturday

CLAYTOR LAKE — The 11th annual Claytor Lake Festival is set for this Saturday, June 7.
Starting at 10 a.m., the festival will offer activities for all ages, including arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, musical entertainment, wine-tasting featuring Virginia wines, a car show including antique cars, antique fire trucks by Old Dominion Historical Fire Society, Yearout Fishing Tournament and Essay Contest, radio-controlled cars and airplanes, children’s activities, a sand sculpture contest, and Native American demonstrations with the Red Fire Singers.
The day’s musical entertainment will include performances by bluegrass star Dave Evans and the River Bend at 4 and 8 p.m., and also The Billy Crawford Band, the Rockin’ Cruisers, and Parking Lot Grass.
Fireworks at dark will serve as the festival’s grand finale.
Other entertainment will include a live radio remote by Cumulus Broadcasting, which will continue until the fireworks begin and will resume for about 45 minutes after the end of the fireworks show.
The day’s events are scheduled as follows:
• Arts and crafts show: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Car show: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Antique fire truck and vehicle drive in: 1 p.m.
• Old Dominion Historical Fire Society Antique Fire Trucks: 1 p.m. to dusk
• Yearout Fishing Tournament and Essay Contest: registration from 7 to 10 a.m.; essays due at noon.
• Sand sculpture contest: 1 p.m.
• Food and beverage vendors, radio -controlled cars, trucks and airplanes, children’s activities, Native American Demonstrations and Red Fire Singers throughout the day.
• Wine-tasting: noon to 7 p.m., featuring Hickory Hill Vineyard, Peaks of Otter Winery, Blenkinsop Winery and West Wind Farm Vineyard/Winery.
Entry to the park on the day of the festival is free, but there is a $5 parking fee at the gate. Entry is free with four cans of food, with the food being donated to local food banks. A free shuttle service will also be available throughout the day from the Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot in Dublin.
The 2008 Claytor Lake Festival has been planned by the Claytor Lake Festival Committee, Claytor Lake State Park, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley, and the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.
