Faculty takes on seniors

DUBLIN — In the spirit of friendly rivalry, faculty members and senior students at Pulaski County High School will go head-to-head this Friday night in the fourth annual Faculty and Seniors Basketball Game.
Fifty percent of the proceeds from this game, which is sponsored by the PCHS Cave Club, will go toward the winning team’s chosen charity, according to George Marunich, PCHS special education teacher. He added this year, if the faculty team wins, the money will be donated toward the PCHS Special Olympics. If the seniors win, the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
Kris Layne, who is also a special education teacher at PCHS, noted that in previous years, donations have been made to the Women’s Resource Center, as well as the American Cancer Society.
As for their prediction of which team will prevail this year, Marunich and Layne admitted the seniors have won the past three years, but they said this just might be the year the faculty steps up and turns things around.
Overall, Marunich and Layne both agreed this game is a fun way to bring the community together, and it’s “great to see teachers and faculty out on the court.”
This year’s faculty team will be coached by teachers Harriet Farris and Carla Hallstead. Team members include: Rhonda Barnes, Evan Bragg, Jessica Brevard, Allison Childress, Mike Goff, Regina Grinnell, Brian Hall, Eric Hogan, Josh Hurst, Steve Lavery, Drew Layne, Kris Layne, Geoff McCulloch, Scott Peterson, Mike Price, Rod Reedy, Joey Williams and Mary Cheverton.
The senior team, which has been dubbed “The Senior Tropics,” will be coached by seniors Skyla Thomas and Ariel Long. Team members include Cam Akers, Brandon Bishop, Cody Chrisley, Shay Dunnigan, Ben Eads, Chip Hanks, Matt Jones, Jared King, Lydia King, Cameron Lephew, Charlie Morrison, Anna Rankin, Danny Simmons, Dusty Spencer, Nick Stuth, Kristin Surratt, Shauna Thorton, Joe Toscano, Ryan Adams, Justin Doyle, Derek Handy, Jeremiah Kazee, Aaron Pierett and TT Webb.
The game will be held in the PCHS gym on Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m. Admission is $4. A tailgate party, sponsored by Pulaski Community Partners Coalition (PCPC), will also be held in the parking lot outside the gym, starting at 5 p.m.
